In the Times of Feb 5, 1903 a notice of addition to surname was published, to the effect that William Nainby, of Thorganby Hall, near Grimsby, assumed and adopted on 31 Dec 1902 the surname of Nainby-Manby instead of Nainby by deed poll of the same date.

William Chave Nainby-Luxmoore

A Royal License dated 29 January 1885 announced that in compliance with a clause in the will of John Chave Luxmoore to take the surname Luxmoore in addition to and after that of Nainby.  Also to bear the arms of Luxmoore quarterly with those of Nainby, such arms being first duly exemplified according to the law of arms and recorded in the CoA otherwise the said Royal license and permission to be void and of none effect.

 

Another royal license, dated July 25, 1885 grants to William Chave Nainby-Luxmoore (formerly William Chave Nainby) that he and his issue may continue to use the surname of Luxmoore in addition to and after that of Nainby, and that he and they may take, bear and use the arms of Luxmoore only; such arms being first duly exemplified .

 

The Harleian Society’s “Grantees of Arms” has the following entry;

 

"Nainby-Luxmoore W C., of Thorganby Hall, co. Linc., 1885 Vol. LXIII, fols. 61 to 93."

 

Burke’s Landed Gentry (1937) gives the Arms as;

 

“Or on a chevron cottised Sa between two martlets in chief of the last and as many oak branches slipped in saltire in base Ppr three billets of the first. Crest: A battle axe Sa in front of three billets Or.”
